Initial Thoughts

Assignment 2 gives us the option to choose between 3 different subjects: Things, Views and Heads.

Initially, I thought views would be a great for this assignment as where I live we have some amazing viewpoints and landscapes but it just seemed a little uninteresting for me and lacked the fun factor that I enjoy with my photography, plus I really wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone with this assignment. After much thought and brain storming I decided this assignment could be a good opportunity to help me discover where I want to go in the future in regards to what I want to photograph. I am really interested in pet photography especially dogs. Therefore, I have decided that for this assignment I am going to focus on canine photography. I want to capture different breeds in both posed settings and natural settings. I thought about the possibility of just capturing canine heads but thought this could limit my shots and I would like to try and get some action shots, if I can!

I enjoy photographing my own animals therefore, I saw this as the perfect opportunity for me to “add to my collection” of animal photos especially as this would give me the opportunity to capture different dogs and not just my own. A lot of my friends have dogs all of which are different shapes, sizes and have different jobs e.g. gun dogs to family pets, puppies to golden oldies!

My next steps are to do a quick plan of what I want to achieve from this assignment (brain storm in my sketchbook please see upload below followed by plan) and what I hope my outcome to be, to do some intensive research to help me on how to conduct this assignment and for further ideas on how to get the best out of my photo. After that, I will contact some people to see if I can use their dogs to make a start on my collection.
